Tags are a simple mechanism to group entities together. Tags are disposable and you can use them for recurring operations or just for a single one-off task.
For example, you may need to issue a hundred credits of differing amounts on a hundred shipments. To keep track of this you would simply create a tag and then assign it to all the shipments that need the refunds. Perhaps you have an Excel sheet with all the tracking numbers.
Once you have tagged all the shipments, you can view the tag, select all, and then perform the Customer Adjustment action.
Except that although you have all the shipments identified, you now need to enter a different amount for each shipment.
Tag Parameters allow you to export the second column from your spreadsheet containing the amounts and process all the shipments at once.
When you begin an Action while viewing a Tag, the action dialogue will include the Tag Parameters button.
Once Tag Parameters are activated, the field that will receive the parameter will be shown with the tag icon.
Let's say we need to issue these credits:
We start by creating a Shipment Tag
Then we paste the sheet into the importer
Note that when you paste the spreadsheet the amount is separated from the tracking number by a space. This will tell the system to tag the first column and store the second column as the matching parameter.
Now go to the tag, select all the shipments, and click on Customer Adjustment (or any action that supports parameters). Click on the Tag button at the bottom of the dialogue to activate the parameter tags.
Note that the Tag icon appears near the Credit Amount field. This means that if any parameter is present it will replace the amount you enter.
As the summary shows, the amounts used were taken from the imported parameters
