Pickup Requests
How pickup requests are booked and how they relate to shipments
A pickup request is an instruction to a carrier to collect one or more shipments. Carriers handle pickup requests differently. Some only accept requests from the account address and some charge a fee for pickups at non-account addresses. When you book a pickup in the system it assigns all qualifying shipments at the same time. Typically qualifying shipments are those in the Manifested state, not attached to other pickup requests, at the pickup address.
Once a pickup request is made the attached shipments cannot be voided. If you need to void a shipment, you must first cancel the pickup.
Cancelling a pickup requires that the carrier approve the cancellation. If the driver has been dispatched or too much time has passed, the carrier may refuse the cancellation.
Detaching Pickups
If you need to book a new pickup for a shipment that is already attached to a pickup that cannot be cancelled, an authorized operator may use the Detach Pickup command. This process detaches the shipment from the pickup request without attempting to cancel the pickup. This allows you to book a new pickup or void the shipment. It does not prevent a driver from being dispatched to collect the package.
